Led by Coach James Moore, Roadhouse Jiujitsu Academy is more than just a training space—it’s a community built on respect, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of growth. With years of experience in jiujitsu, boxing, and coaching, Coach Moore brings a powerful blend of technical knowledge, real-world grit, and a heart for mentoring others.
The Journey Behind the Vision
In March 2023, Coach Moore launched Roadhouse Jiujitsu Academy with a dream to offer high-level instruction and create a space where people of all backgrounds could train, grow, and belong. Before founding the academy, he spent 15 years traveling the country as a minister, teacher, and coach—learning from the best wherever he went, always with one goal in mind: becoming a jiujitsu black belt.
His jiujitsu journey began in 2010 under Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Marcello Monteiro in Beech Grove, Indiana. He later trained with UFC veteran Joe “Daddy” Stevenson and five-time world champion Marcello Mafra in Victorville, California, earning his purple belt from Stevenson in 2016. In 2017, he returned to Indiana and resumed training under Monteiro and Jon Correa, earning his brown belt in April 2022.
In 2025, after years of dedication and progression, Coach Moore was promoted to black belt under 2nd-degree black belt Francisco Davila—a milestone marking not just technical mastery, but a lifetime of commitment to the art.

Coach Moore believes the struggles we face on the mats equip us with the tools to fight for what we love in life—and that discipline, humility, and perseverance carry over far beyond the academy.

Meet Coach James Moore
Black Belt | Founder of Roadhouse Jiujitsu Academy
Coach James Moore has been dedicated to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 15 years. His greatest passion lies in helping his students discover that they are capable of far more than they realize. On the mat, he teaches not just technique, but transformation—showing students how to adapt, grow, and thrive in any environment.
Coach Moore firmly believes that the pressure we experience during training prepares us to handle the pressures of everyday life. His instruction is rooted in the idea that resilience, discipline, and mental strength developed in jiujitsu carry over into every part of who we are and what we do.
Outside the academy, Coach Moore enjoys life with his fiancée Karma and their blended family: his two children, Adam and Adrianne Moore, and Karma’s three children—Kenee, Kyndyl, and Kyle. Whether on the mats or at home, his life is guided by family, purpose, and a deep commitment to the journey.
When he’s not coaching at Roadhouse, Coach Moore works in business development at Tilson HR, where he helps business leaders navigate challenges, build strong teams, and grow through pressure. The same lessons he teaches on the mat—adaptability, perseverance, and the belief that pressure is a privilege—are the ones he brings to organizations every day.

Coach Joe Newland
Coach Joe Newland is a force of nature. Joe coaches wrestling practice every Wednesday night at 7 pm. He is an Ohio State high school state champion runner up and a Brazilian jiujitsu blue belt. Coach Joe has won several gold medals in jiujitsu competitions and is still competing in local wrestling tournaments.
