Welcome to the Roadhouse Jujitsu and Boxing Academy, where passion meets expertise under the guidance of Coach James Moore. With a journey rooted in dedication and skill, Coach Moore brings years of experience to our academy. His commitment to the art of jujitsu and boxing has not only shaped him as a coach but also inspired countless students along the way.
In March of 2023, Coach Moore, had a vision to quit his stressful corporate job and chase his dream of owning and operating a jiujitsu and boxing academy. For 15 years, he traveled the country as a minister, school teacher, and coach. In every place he lived he found the best instructors and coaches to pursue his goal of becoming a black belt in jiujitsu.
In 2010, he started with Marcello Monteiro in Beechgrove, Indiana. After that he trained with UFC legend, Joe “Daddy” Stevenson and five time world champion Marcello Mafra in Victorville, CA. Joe Stevenson gave him a purple belt in 2016. Soon after in 2017, he returned to his home state to train again with BJJ Coach, Marcello Monteiro and Jon Correa. In April 2022, he received a brown belt from Marcello.
The vision behind the Roadhouse is to bring quality jiujitsu, fundamental cardio boxing training to Hancock County, while developing a community and fostering a family environment.
Coach Moore hopes to finish his mission of becoming a black belt very soon by continuing to improve himself, and by helping others reach their goals in both sports and to make an impact in the competition scene. He believes that the struggles we face on the mats give us the tools to fight for what we love in life. Check out more information about our other amazing coaches below!

Coach James Moore
Coach Moore has been training the art of jiujitsu for 15 years. HIs passion is to see his students learn that they can do more than they think they can. They can adapt and grow in any environment. What he teaches on the mat can be transferred into everyday life. Coach Moore teaches that the pressure we endure on the mat prepares us to withstand the pressures of life.
He spends his time with his girlfriend Karma and his two children Adam and Adrianne Moore.

Coach Joe Newland
Coach Joe Newland is a force of nature. Joe coaches wrestling practice every Wednesday night at 7 pm. He is an Ohio State high school state champion runner up and a Brazilian jiujitsu blue belt. Coach Joe has won several gold medals in jiujitsu competitions and is still competing in local wrestling tournaments.

Coach RJ is a Greenfield native. When he is not in gym helping coach new members and kids classes, Ronnie passionately pursues creative arts. In life's symphony, he finds rhythm through grappling and melody strumming the guitar. Ronnie's journey is a testament to the harmonious fusion of physical discipline and artistic expression, weaving passion into the tapestry of his life.

Junior Coach Gavin Thompson
Coach Gavin has grown up at the Roadhouse since the beginning. He came to us as a scrawny kid dreaming of getting in the ring someday as a fighter. Now he is a force of nature, and we can hardly keep the bags hung because he hits them so hard. Gavin is always at the gym and offers a welcoming demeanor always willing to help anyone learn the fundamentals of boxing.

Coach Micah Ballenger
Coach Micah leads our cardio boxing program Monday - Thursday at 6:30 pm. This class focuses on the basic boxing fundamentals of cardio, foot work, and striking. No ego’s here and you don’t have to worry about getting punched in the face. Micah’s laid-back style and friendly disposition makes this class fun and welcoming to all ages.
